Behind its beauty, there is the mystery of Telaga Warna and myths about Dieng that are still widely believed by a number of people. This includes the origin, sacred places, to traditional traditions that are still carried out.

arjuna temple

Arjuna Temple is estimated to have been built in the 8th century AD, this temple was built for worship for Hindus during the Ancient Mataram era of the Sanjaya dynasty. The temples in Dieng are evidence of the spread of the oldest Hindu religion in Java.
This temple was rediscovered in 1807 AD by British soldiers who were traveling to explore the Kedu mountain area and arrived at the Dieng plateau. When it was first rediscovered, the Arjuna Temple area was submerged in water from the overflow of Lake Balekambang, in 1804 by British soldiers who were exploring Dieng. Cornelius, a Corps of Engineers assigned by Raffles to examine the remains of architecture in the Dieng area that had never been visited by tourists before, in his official notes wrote about 40 Temple Groups within 3 weeks of his research in Dieng.
The discovery of the Dieng temple was then continued by Y Van Kinsbergen with drying efforts in 1957 and continued with data collection and taking pictures of the Dieng area in 1864 AD.
Currently, the Dieng temple is managed by the Cultural Heritage Conservation Center (BPCB) of Central Java Province, which also collaborates with the Banjarnegara Regency Government.

Lengger dance is a traditional dance from the Dieng Plateau in Wonosobo, Central Java (Jateng). Lengger dance emerged in 1910 by someone named Gondowinangun from Kecis Village, Selomerto District, Wonosobo. This traditional dance was later developed by Ki Hadi Soewarno in the 1960s.

Lengger means man from the word "eling ngger" or "remember son". The purpose of the lengger dance is to provide advice and information to everyone so that they can invite them to defend the truth and eliminate evil. Lengger is also included in sacred dances.
